Dear folks,
do you have any plans for this year's GSoC? I participated in GSoC'11 with Pig, and am interested in participating again this year. -- Zhijie Shen School of Computing National University of Singapore <http://www.comp.nus.edu.sg/%7Ez-shen/> +

Hi, Zhijie,
Glad to see you again. As a tradition, Pig definitely will be part of this year's GSoC and you are welcome to apply. I try to compile a page in a week or so. Do you guys only accept committer mentors? My knowledge of pig isn't as deep as some, but I'd be willing to throw my hat in.

Hi, folks
I added several projects to Gsoc 2012, feel free to add other projects, provide someone in the community is willing to mentor (one mentor can mentor up to 2 students, the second student need explicit grant from Apache admin though). All you need to do is: 1. label the jira gsoc2012 2. In Jira description, add a note: "This is a candidate project for Google summer of code 2012. More information about the program can be found at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/PIG/GSoc2012" 3. Change https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/PIG/GSoc2012 to include the project Thanks, Daniel On Tue, Mar 13, 2012 at 4:31 PM, ASF - Maillists <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Yeah. https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PIG-2167 > > On Mar 13, 2012, at 7:16 PM, Daniel Dai wrote: > >> Is there a Jira on cubing? >> >> On Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 3:20 PM, Dmitriy Ryaboy <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >>> I'd love to have a student work on getting Arnab Nandi's Cubing work >>> into Pig, whether GSoC or an intern. >>> >>> Totally willing to mentor (and I bet Arnab would help..) >>> >>> D >>> >>> On Sat, Feb 25, 2012 at 4:21 PM, Russell Jurney >>> <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >>>> If it means I can recruit minions to fix my favorite JIRAs, I'm so in. >>>> >>>> Russell Jurney >>>> twitter.com/rjurney >>>> [EMAIL PROTECTED] >>>> datasyndrome.com >>>> >>>> On Feb 24, 2012, at 9:23 PM, Daniel Dai <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: >>>> >>>>> Committer is not necessary. Other random ideas (of varying difficulty and ambition):
- Replace Grunt parser with something using ANTLR - Make a nice java API to create Pig jobs in a Java-y object oriented way - Work on the EvalFunc rewrite (though I think we're going to try and get that done before the summer...) Can think of more... 2012/2/27 Daniel Dai <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > I put a stub page for GSoC 2012: > https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/PIG/GSoc2012. Hi Daniel,
That's great. I planed to work on PIG-1314, but didn't commit it due to my tight research schedule afterwards. If it is valuable to includes this issue in some following release, I'd like to propose to work on it for GSoC'12.
