I have found Michael Noll's tutorial, http://www.michael-noll.com/tutorials/,
most helpful.

I have a recommendation based on my painful experience: if you trying
different distributions of hadoop, be sure to un-install the old
distribution before you install the new one!

Hi Jeffrey,

     Michael's blogs are indeed very helpful. But they just tell us
about the configuration procedure. If you really want to learn about
Hadoop and the Hadoop API you must look for few more resources (like
the Hadoop home page).
