write permission on ZooKeeper Wiki?Thomas Koch 2011-02-12, 08:58
Hi,
I wanted to add kafka[1] to the PoweredBy[2] page in the ZK wiki, but didn't find any edit button. I'm logged in. [1] http://sna-projects.com/kafka [2] https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/ZOOKEEPER/PoweredBy By the way: Do you know more projects that use ZooKeeper and are not yet listed on the PoweredBy page? I could use this list for a talk I'm preparing. Best regards, Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro

Hi Thomas, It is good for us as a community to have a long PoweredBy
page, but my preference would be to let the developers of applications include themselves their applications. We know of a number of applications, but the developers might not necessarily want to have their projects on our wiki page for whatever reason. This message actually could be seen as a call for developers to add their projects to the page. -Flavio On Feb 12, 2011, at 9:58 AM, Thomas Koch wrote: > Hi, > > I wanted to add kafka[1] to the PoweredBy[2] page in the ZK wiki, > but didn't > find any edit button. Hi Flavio, for free software projects that publicitly state on their homepage and on public talks with public slides that they use ZooKeeper, it may be safe to assume that they're ok with being listed as ZooKeeper users. It would of couse be fine, if every zk user would list themself in the wiki, but that would require them to know that there is a poweredby page and to get an account for the wiki and to actually care for the publicity of ZK. That being said, I still don't know, whether the poweredby page is editable to start with. Where is the edit button? You could be a good role model and add S4[1] to the poweredby page. :-) It does use ZK, doesn't it? [1] http://s4.io If you don't want that we list projects on the poweredby page, would you be so kind and give me a short brain dump what other interesting and public users of ZK you know? Best regards, Thomas Koch, http://www.koch.ro

Hi Thomas,
The facebook messaging service that they launched 2-3 months ago, uses zookeeper. There are others as well but unfortunately we cant put this up on the powered by page unless folks who are these power users agree to put this up on the website. http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=454991608919 Its really unfortunate that the powered by page of zookeeper is very under represented. thanks mahadev On Sat, Feb 12, 2011 at 5:51 AM, Thomas Koch <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Flavio Junqueira: >> Hi Thomas, It is good for us as a community to have a long PoweredBy >> page, but my preference would be to let the developers of applications >> include themselves their applications. you are right about the s4 guys. i'll bug them to put something up.
the permissions on confluence are a bit tricky. (two levels of ACLs.) i think i've fixed it for you. can you see if you can edit the page now? Hi Ben, what's the status on this? Seems to me that given we have CMS
we should allow any registered user to edit the cwiki pages. This level of permissions is essentially what we did on the old wiki, no? (anyone registered could edit). Re: write permission on ZooKeeper Wiki?Ertio Lew 2011-02-25, 09:47
Hi all,
I am involved in a project where we're building a social application using Cassandra DB and Java. I am looking for a solution to generate unique sequential IDs for the content on the application. I have been suggested by some people to have a look to Zookeeper for this. I would highly appreciate if anyone can suggest if zookeeper is suitable for this purpose and any good resources to gain information about zookeeper. Since the application is based on a eventually consistent distributed platform using Cassandra, we have felt a need to look over to other solutions instead of building our own using our DB. Any kind of comments, suggestions are highly welcomed! :) Regards Ertio Lew.

this should be fixed. the only thing normal users cannot do is remove or
restrict pages. perhaps they should be able to remove pages as well; that was just the default. btw, you and mahadev should be able to change the space permissions, so feel free to update. it does seem like users should be able to remove right? ben On Fri, Feb 25, 2011 at 12:24 AM, Patrick Hunt <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Ben, what's the status on this? Ben that all sounds right to me. Thanks for making this happen!
I got pinged on twitter - the old wiki pages still exist. Is there some way for us to sunset these pages? Perhaps update them all to point to the new pages on cwiki? (or at least tell them the page is stale and point to the toplevel cwiki, we don't want to lose the google juice).
