TLDR: My general impression is that this is a nice clean release. I got the binary release working (in local mode) quickly. Missing README was a bit frustrating. Someone should make sure that the copyright year is OK, and also make sure that the GPG warning is acceptable.
I downloaded the binary build, on Mac OS X, and ran in the directory created when chrome unzipped the .tar.gz. I followed the steps at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/DRILL/Apache+Drill+in+10+Minutes. I was able to start Drill embedded and run a query in about 3 minutes.
Most queries ran fine. I was mildly surprised when “SELECT * FROM cp.`employee.json` limit 0” gave an error that looked like an internal protocol error.
1. As Keys noted, a README would be really useful.
2. NOTICE says “Copyright 2013”. Should that be 2013-2014?
3. I verified keys. It gave one warning. Is this good?
