Incubator statusChris Douglas 2011-11-21, 17:50
Chukwa devs-
Context: http://s.apache.org/P5p Chukwa has been incubating for more than a year, now. It has not rolled a release since joining, though I know much of this is due to unpredictable and uneven releases from its dependencies. Mailing list activity has been intermittent: chukwa-dev@: http://s.apache.org/gt chukwa-user@: http://s.apache.org/ji So I'd like to know how the dev community feels the project is progressing. More specifically, what can we say about its progress toward graduation from the incubator? -C +

Re: Incubator statusEric Yang 2011-11-21, 23:45
Hi Chris,
Chukwa has been in hibernation due to missing integration between Hadoop and HBase. This blocker is getting resolved by Hadoop 0.20.205.1 and HBase 0.92.0. I am currently working on polishing documentation to be ready for a incubator release. There is a few activities on development. One patch was submitted for collecting data from Chukwa to Cassandra which is pending review. I intent to integrate it into Chukwa 0.5. I am hoping to start a release vote for 0.5 before 2012. Once, Chukwa 0.5 is released with larger adoption, then we have better data point to assert if we can graduate Chukwa from the incubator. regards, Eric On Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at 9:50 AM, Chris Douglas <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Chukwa devs- > > Context: > http://s.apache.org/P5p > > Chukwa has been incubating for more than a year, now. Re: Incubator statusChris Douglas 2011-11-22, 02:05
It's great that Chukwa is finally unblocked by its dependencies.
Let's be clear about its path to (and timetable for) graduation. While its hibernation is completely understandable, we need to show accelerated progress now that the technical roadblocks are cleared. A release before 2012 would be hugely encouraging. Is anyone else in the dev community willing to sign up for this? -C On Mon, Nov 21, 2011 at 3:45 PM, Eric Yang <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Hi Chris, > > Chukwa has been in hibernation due to missing integration between > Hadoop and HBase. Yah, we've been dragging our feet on doing a release. I think nobody
has quite enough time or enthusiasm to push it through -- I'm in my last year of graduate school, Eric's just started a new job, etc. I think it's not such a monstrous piece of work -- the code is IP-clean as far as I know, and there shouldn't be any major blockers to an Incubator release. But somebody would have to lead it and I can't. Eric? I agree to working on rolling out 0.5 release. However, I'm not sure I'm
fully aware of the work needed to get there. Maybe me and Eric could work on it simultaneously. Eric, What do you think? "pivot table for down sampling data on HBase" is being designed in CHUKWA-567.
"Convert FSM analytics from SQL sotrage" is being designed in CHUKWA-604. Hope this helps. regards, Eric On Tue, Nov 22, 2011 at 2:02 PM, SALAMI Patrick <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Ok, sounds good.
