Hi Friends,
I wanted to use symbolic links in HDFS for my application. I found "https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDFS-245" in Jira for symbolic links.

I wanted to know that should I apply "symlink41-hdfs" patch in Hadoop. Currently I am using Hadoop 0.20.2.
Other thing I wanted to know that is this functionality is provided to fs shell i.e. after I apply this patch, will I be able to create symbolic links via shell commands .

No, this will not provide symlink support to FsShell.  The shell is not yet using FileContext although adding the support is planned.

Unfortunately I do not know the answer to that question.  I'd suggest contacting the author of the patches.

Hi Stuti,

In general, if you want to start applying custom patches to Hadoop to
make your own build, you're on your own. If you're not comfortable
verifying the patches and digging through SVN history to see how final
they are, then you probably should just wait for a released version to
include the combination of features and stability that you need.
