Theoretically, since we're using CMS it shouldn't be hard to swap out our template for a different one. It looks like the Flex site might be doing some special stuff, though. Because this is a community developing a distributed key-value store, not a community developing a common interface for elegant front ends? Seriously, it would be cool if we had a nice website, but it's not really in our strong suit. It's like going to an interior designers house and asking why doesn't our house look as well put together as it. It matters: http://www.mongodb.org/It wouldn't be hard to put together something decent looking using twitter bootstrap. I like the style, but I think it might require some content-restructuring (esp. the front page). Also, one thing I really liked on the Flex page was the menus. -- Christopher L Tubbs II http://gravatar.com/ctubbsiiOn Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 2:34 PM, Gabe Bell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Took a stab at it for a bit using styling cues from Twitter bootstrap, if the community likes it I can create a SVN patch. Agreed on the content restructuring, maybe a new theme could speed that up. When you say the menus, do you mean the style or the drop-down function? This design could implement drop-downs without JS - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/265949/AccumuloDropdown.mov (600kb MOV file on Dropbox) On Feb 26, 2013, at 5:56 PM, Christopher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > I like the style, but I think it might require some > content-restructuring (esp. the front page). I mean a little bit of the style and the drop-down. Mainly, the drop-down, but I like the style, too. I think we should be unique, though, in terms of style (we want to make the brand distinct and easily identifiable), but adopt some of the design considerations (crisp solid colors, distinct borders, minimal 'widgets' and text on the main view, fewer but bigger buttons to direct users to the most important information first, shorter more hierarchical menus rather than long lists, etc.). -- Christopher L Tubbs II http://gravatar.com/ctubbsiiOn Tue, Feb 26, 2013 at 6:36 PM, Gabe Bell <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > Agreed on the content restructuring, maybe a new theme could speed that up. > When you say the menus, do you mean the style or the drop-down function? > This design could implement drop-downs without JS - https://dl.dropbox.com/u/265949/AccumuloDropdown.mov (600kb MOV file on Dropbox) > On Feb 26, 2013, at 5:56 PM, Christopher <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote: > >> I like the style, but I think it might require some >> content-restructuring (esp. the front page). The flex site looked like bootstrap to me, checked the source and sure enough: <script src="js/jquery.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/jquery.js>"></script><script src="js/custom.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/custom.js>"></script><script src="js/selectnav.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/selectnav.js>"></script><script src="js/flexslider.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/flexslider.js>"></script><script src="js/twitter.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/twitter.js>"></script><script src="js/fancybox.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/fancybox.js>"></script><script src="js/isotope.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/isotope.js>"></script><script src="js/bootstrap.js <view-source: http://flex.apache.org/js/bootstrap.js>"></script>What resources are available to us on that website? Any chance of feeding a live monitor from a MiniAccumuloInstance running somewhere or anything like that? Yes, the style I posted was also bootstrap. I plan on iterating some more over the weekend for a few more alternatives. Some screenshots or other eye candy could also work instead of a live feed.
