It's not implemented for local file system (RawLocalFileSystem), see the javadoc from FileSystem:
* @return The file checksum. The default return value is null, * which indicates that no checksum algorithm is implemented * in the corresponding FileSystem.
Given that LocalFileSystem extends ChecksumFileSystem it would be reasonable for it to implement it. Feel free to file a jira for that if you need it.
