Are you running SNN on a separate node?

If so, it needs to communicate with NN.

Add this property to your hdfs-site.xml
<property>
     <name>dfs.namenode.http-address</name>
     <value><host-name>:50070</value> <!-change it to 0.0.0.0:50070 if you are running EC2 -->
     <description>
         Needed for running SNN
         The address and the base port on which the dfs NameNode Web UI will listen.
         If the port is 0, the server will start on a free port.
     </description>
  </property>
Also, if you want to overwrite default directory for SNN to /home/hadoop/dfs/namesecondary
Then also add to the hdfs-site.xml of your SNN:
<property>
    <name>dfs.namenode.checkpoint.dir</name>
    <value>/home/hadoop/dfs/namesecondary</value>
</property>
