What does the line given below signifies -

" Chukwa will look first in HADOOP_HOME/build for a hadoop-*-core.jar
file, then in HADOOP_HOME/build/classes for hadoop classes. "

It is present just above the " export HADOOP_HOME "..The reason for
asking this question is that I can find the core.jar, but there is
nothing like classes inside the Hadoop folder. I am using
Hadoop-0.20.203.0 and Chukwa-0.4.0.

If you compile Hadoop from sources, you'll have a "classes" directory;
otherwise, you won't. So you don't need to worry about it. :)

Actually I am trying to configure Chukwa on a single node and the
collector is not able to connect to Hdfs..In the collector.log file I
can see the exception that is raised because the "classes" is not
visible to Chukwa.Do I need to compile Hadoop and Chukwa in order to
use Chukwa properly???

The classes should go in the lib/ directory for chukwa root.
