Pig User GroupPrashant Kommireddi 2012-03-19, 22:23
Hi All,
Is there a Pig User Group (not the mailing list) and sessions organized just like HUG? If not, do you folks think it would be nice to have one? I think it would be good to have this especially around release time when there are a bunch of features and improvements we can talk about. Thanks, Prashant

Are the contributor meetings still happening?

I'd love for there to be a PUG, and equally would love to know if there is
still a contributor meeting... 2012/3/19 Russell Jurney <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > Are the contributor meetings still happening? > > Russell Jurney http://datasyndrome.com > > On Mar 19, 2012, at 3:23 PM, Prashant Kommireddi <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > wrote: > > > Hi All, > > > > Is there a Pig User Group (not the mailing list) and sessions organized > > just like HUG? Re: Pig User GroupAlan Gates 2012-03-20, 00:23
There will be a Pig meetup the day before Hadoop summit. But if you guys are willing to organize one sooner that's great. It would be cool to have a PUG every couple months, maybe rotating between SF and the valley. We just need someone with the time and desire to organize it.

Great.
Since Dmitriy graciously offered Twitter as a location for hosting such an event :) , and I am sure Salesforce campus could be used too, what other logistics would need to be worked out to arrange such a meet? Oh, its easy for me to say this, being a hermit on the beach with an empty
calendar, but... it would be really cool if we also did bi-monthly hackdays. On the same days we do a PUG, maybe right after. I would be up for writing unit tests on these days. be persuaded to venture outside of San Francisco. It would be great to crunch on JIRAs, write tests, and hear from people who know about the coarse edges of the Pig codebase. Re: Pig User GroupAlan Gates 2012-03-20, 04:23
Since these meetups can't be official Apache meetings, you don't need permission from Apache. By arranging them on this list you're keeping the community involved, so that's good.
As far as logistics, it's up to you as the organizer. You could ask the host to offer pizza & drinks, or just coffee, or whatever. Also, you could arrange an agenda ahead of time or do the unconference thing they like to do at the SF HUG. Whatever you want. I do own the Pig meetup group on meetup.com. If you let me know the time and place I'll put it on there so all the people signed up there can find out about it and participate if they're interested. If we want to rotate, for the times we're in the valley Hortonworks would be happy to host too. The more places we can have host it the better, as people are much more likely to attend when the meeting is in their own office or right next door. Alan.
